Researching the company's mission and vision, inspiration and product lines, clarified that their influence from Mayan culture is a core concept in their chocolate-making process and their stance as an ethically sourced and sugar-free company.

Sketch of Mayan masks

Mayan Masks
The Mayans created a range of masks for various gods as well as kings. The masks were made with wood, marble, stones and many more materials which resulted in a diverse and colourful range of masks.
Inspired by the Mayan culture and their use of natural ingredients, the owners focused on chocolate’s medicinal effects and created healthy options for chocolate with sensual and unusual flavours. Dr. Choc’s offers a range of ‘sugar-free’ chocolate to honour the health benefits of cacao.

Development of design concept

Concept
My design features two masks; one half of the original Mayan gods and kings and the other half of a chocolate mask (my interpretation of the mask with ingredients from the flavour of the chocolate). The idea developed from having two masks complete each other to an interactive packaging which would allow the consumer to join masks from different chocolate bars. This would encourage the purchase of more than one chocolate bar.

Other products
A shopping bag was also designed to showcase the flexibility of the design concept. I have developed the chocolate and original Mayan masks to create a strong brand identity that can be identifiable on any product.
