Overview
Part of the brief for this project was working with designers from the well-known publishing house Oxford University Press. The brief entailed redesigning covers for books targeted at children ages 9–13. Throughout the project, I was supported by my tutors as well as discussions with Oxford University Press designers who enriched the context of the books and shared their approach to designing gift books.
A Story Like the Wind
A boy and a group of refugees sail across the sea seeking refuge. They rely on music, reminiscent stories and the stallion to guide them through the difficult journey.
This gift book personifies the power of hope. Despite the very difficult situation, the characters are in, they summon music and hope to survive. My interpretation of hope is the dawn of a new day, and this design concept shows the boat drifting in the ocean at dawn. The warm yet lively colours provoke a positive feeling and emphasizes the silhouette of the characters in black.

Making
I utilised found material to reflect the theme of making something beautiful out of any situation. I used ripped pieces of paper and carefully cut ones to create the different elements on the cover.
